President Paul Kagame will, starting Friday, take part in the 54th edition of Munich Security Conference in Germany.

The President’s office confirmed that Kagame will be taking part in the global meet which convenes about 500 global leaders to discuss international security.

For over half a century, the Munich Security Conference (MSC) has become a major global forum for prominent world leaders to discuss security policy.

President Kagame is this afternoon expected to deliver the opening remarks at the summit before later taking part in a panel session on defence cooperation in the European Union and NATO, dubbed ‘More European, More Connected, More Capable?’

Kagame, who is the current Chairperson of the African Union, is also expected to feature on a panel discussion on securing the Sahel Region on Saturday.

On Sunday the Head of State will join panelists at a session on security humanity.

According to the event’s organisers, the summit will seek to look into global security concerns such as cyber-security deterrence, the impact of new technologies on geopolitics and international relations and the protection of the individual and human dignity among other issues.

"This brings together international decision-makers from various fields together to discuss the latest research findings on topical issues of international security policy,” a statement by the organisers reads in part.

Other than government representatives, renowned non-governmental organisations and institutions such as Transparency International, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Robert Bosch Stiftung are expected to take part.

Participants include Heads of State, Ministers, representatives of international organisations, as well as media and academic personalities.
