RE: "Judiciary to try over 100 cases in weeklong anti-graft campaign” (The New Times, February 13). In my life, I have heard of mass marriage but mass trial is totally new to me. You can gather thousands of couples and marry them and forget, whether the couples you mass married will live together for long is not your business but theirs.

However, law and justice are totally different .This exercise is likely to put pressure on judges to produce "positive” results, which is to convict as many people as possible. Law cannot be applied in a hurry; it is very important for criminal lawyers to spend enough time understanding the case, carry out further investigations if needed.

Having a mass trial is a terrible idea. Mass trials will produce nothing but verdicts that will widely be seen as unfair and wrong. Mass trials do not belong to the 21st century. If corruption and people being found guilty are decreasing, what is the purpose of the mass trial exercise after all?
