IT is going to be a show of talent and entertaining demonstration of martial arts in the inaugural Bluesky Taekwondo Open Championship at NPC Gymnasium.
The one-day event, which starts at 9am today, has attracted around 60 young taekwondo players aged between 5 and 13 years it is organised by Bluesky Taekwondo Academy under the auspices of Rwanda Taekwondo Federation.
Expected to grow into an annual children’s regional event, Bluesky Taekwondo Open will be contested by a total of nine teams, two Kenyan and seven local sides. The two sides from Kenya are; Bridge Team and Mombasa County Taekwondo school.
The seven Rwandan teams include; organizers Bluesky Taekwondo Academy, Green Hills Academy, Kigali International School, Special Line-up Taekwondo Club, Dream Taekwondo Club, Musanze Taekwondo Club and Kigali International Taekwondo Academy.
On Friday, Regis Iyumva the heads the team organizing the competition told Saturday Sport that everything is in place and all teams are ready for the event.
Participants in the competition will be vying for medals, both in Kyorugi and Poomsae categories. They will also compete under different age and weight categories.
In Kyorugi, participants fight for points to determine the winner while in Poomsae, the competition is basically meant to demonstrate tactics of the game in a defined pattern of defense-and-attack motions.
