Police FC head coach Innocent Seninga has turned focus to winning this year’s Peace Cup title, a competition Police won in 2015 under Andre Casa Mbungo.
Police will face Azam Rwanda Premier League rivals Kirehe FC in the round of 32 first leg on Tuesday afternoon at Nyakarambi ground, while holders APR FC will begin their title defence against second division outfit Giticyinyoni FC at Kigali Stadium in Nyamirambo.
"We know Kirehe are a very tricky team, especially at home. We have to give our best in the first leg so that we can make sure that the job will be done in the second leg at home,” Seninga told Times Sport.
Seninga, who has been tasked to win at least one trophy this season, added that, "We are disappointed not to win the Heroes Cup (which was won by Rayon Sports on goal difference) but we want to do well in Peace Cup, starting with tomorrow’s (today) clash with Kirehe.”
Kirehe head coach Abdul Karim Nduhirabandi warned Police that they’re in for a tough game, "We are playing against a big team, which is always challenging to win trophies but we have set our targets not to go out early, so we have to win the first leg.”
Meanwhile, APR FC coach Jimmy Mulisa says his team will be looking to maintain the winning spirit, having come from behind to beat archrivals Rayon Sports 2-1 in the Heroes Cup on Thursday.
"The win against Rayon Sports is a big motivation for us going into the matches ahead, we are focused on doing well in the Peace Cup, it’s a big competition where anyone will come seeking to win,” Mulisa said on Monday.
Rayon Sports, the 2016 winners will meet Aspor FC while AS Kigali, winners of the competition in 2013, will take on Gasabo United a FERWAFA ground whereas Azam Rwanda Premier League leaders SC Kiyovu will play against Esperance at Mumena stadium.
The last 32 draw winners will proceed to the round of 16 (1/8) scheduled for March 14-15 while the return leg will be on the weekend of March 17-18.
