AS Kigali Women Football Club started defence of their league title with a forfeit win after their opponents Bugesera failed to show up for the match day one fixture at Kigali Stadium, Nyamirambo.

Chasing a record-extending ninth consecutive league title, the defending champions didn’t start the season as they wished, according to team manager Shaban Mbarushimana.

Mbarushimana said: "Honestly it is not pleasing to prepare your team and then arrive at the stadium only to find out that the opponents are not coming for the game, of course you miss something.”

"We’re disappointed that we did not play although we got the three points,” he said on Sunday.
