Gisagara off to winning start in volleyball league

Defending champions Gisagara VC started the 2018 Men’s national volleyball league campaign with two wins against IPRC-South and University of Tourism, Technology and Business Studies (UTB) at Gisagara Indoor Gymnasium on Sunday.

Defending champions Gisagara VC started the 2018 Men’s national volleyball league campaign with two wins against IPRC-South and University of Tourism, Technology and Business Studies (UTB) at Gisagara Indoor Gymnasium on Sunday.

Gisagara, who beat Rwanda Energy Group Volleyball Club (REG) 3-0 in final of the Heroes Cup a week ago, started the season with beating IPRC-South 3-0 (25-22, 25-10 and 25-17) before they won against UTB in a five set thriller 2-3 (25-23, 22-25, 17-25, 25-19 and 9-15). UTB beat IPRC-South 3-0 (25-16, 25-22 and 25-13).

In Kirehe, at Nyagarambi grounds, Kirehe beat Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) 3-0 (25-15, 27-25 and 25-21), who also lost 3-0 against Rwanda Energy Group (25-10, 25-21 and 25-11) while REG defeated hosts Kirehe 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-9 and 25-17).

In Kigali at National Paralympic Committee Gymnasium, APR were stunned by newcomers IPRC-East 1-3 (24-26, 25-21, 39-41 and 21-25) but IPRC-East went on to lose against former champions, University of Kibungo (UNIK) 1-3 (22-25, 20-25, 25-23 and 22-25). UNIK lost to APR 0-3 (23-25, 15-25 and 21-25).

After two matches, REG lead the table with 6 points, one ahead of second-placed Gisagara while UTB are third with four points.
