The Nyagatare dairy plant in the eastern province is to start its operations this week, the acting managing director has revealed.

The 35,000 litre capacity plant was largely funded by Umutara community resource infrastructure and development project and it is said to have cost over Rwf.1 billion.

Umutara Community Resources Infrastructure Development Project is a 10-year project whose key  target is to activate an equitable process of economic, human and institutional development consistent with mobilisation and efficient use of human and natural resources within its working sites.

‘You will be able to see some of our products on the market this week’, Cyril Sinayobye, acting managing director of the Eastern plant said yesterday in phone interview.

He said that the production will depend on the demand particularly emanating from Kigali which he said comprise 90 percent of their targeted market.

Shareholders of this dairy plant include Umutara dairy marketing cooperative with a lion’s share of 60 percent, Development Bank of Rwanda (BRD) and Rwanda development investment organisation sharing the balance 40%.
