Newly created Kigali Volleyball Club (Women) have registered to compete in the national league this season, which is scheduled to start on Sunday.

KVC-Women will become the seventh club in the women’s league, joining five-time defending and reigning champions Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA), APR, St Aloys Rwamagana, St Joseph Kabgayi, IPRC-Kigali and Ruhango.

The club have appointed former Umubano Blue Tigers and APR coach Viateur ‘Lado’ Sibomana to lead them for one season.

Sibomana was sacked by APR last season after failing to win the league but he guided the military side to the Genocide Memorial Tournament title after defeating rivals RRA 3-2. At APR, he was replaced by his assistant coach Alex Nkuranga.

"We started training two weeks ago at NPC (National Paralympic Committee-Rwanda) gymnasium in preparation for the upcoming season and we believe that we will be ready to compete with the top teams,” Sibomana said.

He added that, "We have signed good players who we believe will work perfectly well alongside the younger players. We need to build a competitive team, not a team that’s just good enough to participate in the league, but a winning side.”

The new signings include; Demitrie Muhimpundu from APR VC, Nasla Uwamahoro from RRA and Honorine Ishimwe from St Aloys Rwamagana.

Others are; Yvette Mutoniwase, Flora Munganyinka, Damarce Abayo, Joselyne Nyirahabimana, Pacifique Umulisa, Laurette Uwase, Solange Mukeshimana, Christine Uwanyirigira and Pascaline Mukashyaka signed from different schools.
