A young woman was yesterday admitted to Mugonero hospital following massive loss of blood after being reportedly gang-raped.

The 17 year-old woman (name withheld), is in critical but improving condition after the incident took place Tuesday night at her work place. Uwamariya, who works as a house-maid, was left at home by her employer, Ntagungira, who was on a business trip to Cyangugu.

She was left alone with two male house-servants, who are among the suspected involved. Though she says she cannot be sure who was involved in the raping, Uwamariya claims over seven were involved.

Hospital authorities assure that she will fully recover, though the psychological effects may be longer-lasting. She moved to Kibuye after dropping out of secondary school last year.

"According to the way she was brought here, the situation has changed but I am afraid she might not be able to bare children,” said Fani Kabajema, a nurse at the hospital.
