APR FC head coach Jimmy Mulisa has confirmed the signing of attacking midfielder-cum-forward Dominique Savio Nshuti from Azam Rwanda League rivals AS Kigali.

It was reported last week that the Rwanda international, who was with the local Amavubi at the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco, had signed a two-year contract with the military side.

"He is an excellent addition to the squad, we needed to improve the team offensively and Savio is good option for us, we believe his arrival and the other signings this month will help us challenge for trophies — we also want to do well in CAF Confederation Cup,” Mulisa said on Saturday.

APR paid Rwf16 million for Nshuti, who only joined AS Kigali from Azam Rwanda Premier League champions Rayon Sports this season, for a similar fee even as he was a free agent then.

He was due to start training with his new teammates on Monday.

In December, Nshuti ‘forced’ his way from AS Kigali accusing the City of Kigali-sponsored club of dishonoring the three-year contract he signed just seven months ago.

AS head coach Eric Nshimiyimana also confirmed Nshuti’s departure. "It is true he is not with us anymore but he did not use professional channels to move on, nonetheless, but we have got Fuadi Ndayisenga and he will be good replacement.”

Tipped as the ‘next big thing’ in Rwanda football, Nshuti is two-footed and possesses exceptional passing and dribbling skills as well as the speed to cause trouble to any defence. He is also the captain of the U20 national team.

Nshuti made his AS Kigali debut in their season opener against his former side Rayon Sports, which ended in a 1-1 draw before his long-standing shoulder injury re-occurred. He was later operated on at King Faisal Hospital, Kigali.

The 20-year old was handed his maiden international cap under Johnny McKinstry in April 2015, against Somalia, in the African U23 Championship qualifiers.

The Rwanda international has been one of the hotshots in local football since joining Rayon Sports from second division side Isonga FC two years ago. He helped Rayon Sports to the Peace Cup trophy in 2016 and the league title last season.

Nshuti joins international teammates Jean Claude Iranzi and Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza as APR’s January signings as the record 16-time league champions bid to strengthen their squad for a busy second half of the season.
