RE: "Hugh Masekela, South African jazz trumpeter, dies” (The New Times, January 23).

It’s with profound sadness to hear about the passing of the jazz maestro Hugh Masekela. His songs were purely inspirational: listening to Bring Him Back Home, Stimela, The Train Ferrying the Mine Workers Drawn from Southern Africa, The Hopes and Dreams of this People...you just feel like crying.

I can’t forget the memorable performance the maestro put up in scintillating collabo with Sauti Sol during the Safaricom International Jazz Festival in Nairobi.

Well, that’s life! You ran your race and you completed successfully. We shall miss you. Rest in Peace!
