Yesterday, members of several cooperatrives converged for communal work in Kigali city. Led by the City Council, the association of taxi motorcyclists (ASSETAMORWA), airtime vendors, and public phone vendors (commonly known as Tuvugane) joined efforts in cleaning different streets of the city.

Charles Rusimbi, a Kigali city official told The New Times that the activity is in line with fulfilling the contracts of keeping Kigali clean and green.

"These cooperatives used their resources and hands in order to contribute to making Kigali presentable and clean for all,” Rusimbi explained. Other groups of people involved were youth associations and housing technicians.

"We mobilise Rwf 11 million annually from our members to clean 3km from Kanogo to Prince House in Remera. Now we have met with 15.000 members in order to evaluate our activity and where necessary use our hands,” Jean Marie Vianney Busezerangabo, the Executive Secretary of ASSETAMORWA said.

Dufatanye, an airtime vendors’ cooperative worked on the city centre-Nyamirambo route, ASSETAMORWA worked on the city centre-Remera road and while COATB, the public phone vendors’ cooperative took on the African Union Boulevard.

"Our objective is clear, we are united to develop our country,” Joseph Sibomana, the COATB representative in Gasabo, said.

"It’s high time everyone played his part in rebuilding the country and not just wait for government to do everything, Rusimbi urged.
