I couldn't have said it any better. Thanks to the author; this article speaks for many of us (ladies). I only wish all parents/guardians/family/friends would read and really get to understand it. We need to adopt better greetings.
Editor,
RE: "The new greeting: "When are you getting married?"” (The New Times, January 12).
I couldn't have said it any better. Thanks to the author; this article speaks for many of us (ladies). I only wish all parents/guardians/family/friends would read and really get to understand it. We need to adopt better greetings.
Let's not forget other uncomfortable greetings such as "you've become fat, or slim, or shorter, or black etc..." Maybe it's me but whenever someone asks me one of these questions I get hurt. I think it's high time we learn how to use proper words and do our best to not hurt anyone.
In 2018, we need to support one another on our journey to "self-discovery and grooming" like the author said and adopt newer greetings or compliments such as telling someone that they are smart, ambitious, brave, kind; they look beautiful, healthy, fit, etc. Joel Osteen once said, "If you can't be positive then at least be quiet".

The mindset of some African parents who think every girl-child should get married just because she is done with school must know that everything happens in its due time.
