Rwanda CHAN 2018 team vice-captain Djihad Bizimana has declared that they are not in Morocco on holiday but that they are there to compete.

Amavubi will start their campaign on Monday against Nigeria in Group C at the fifth edition of the Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) finals—Group C matches will be staged in city of Tangier. Libya takes on Equatorial Guinea on the second game of the day.

The 2018 CHAN tournament, which is reserved for players who feature in their respective domestic leagues across Africa, got underway on Saturday and will run until February 4, in Morocco.

Antoine Hey’s team held their first training session on Friday evening in Tanger as they continued their final preparations for the opening match.

"We are not here for holidays; we are here to compete and make sure we get out of the group. In Tunisia during the training camp, we played well overall in all the three warm-up matches but we need to collect on the mistakes that we made in those matches,” Bizimana said.

The APR FC midfield enforcer added that, "CHAN is a high level tournament and every one of us needs to be fully focused and give our best.”

"We need to be ready; we need to improve and do better in defense and striking line. The game against Nigeria will be the biggest test of our ambitions in this tournament. We are targeting to get out of the group,” he noted.

On Friday evening, Amavubi trained at Annexe 2 of Stade Grande de Tanger following their arrival in Tanger on Thursday afternoon.

The 23 players were involved in the session which was closely monitored by the entire technical team led by Hey. The training session lasted for one hour and 20 minutes.

Also on Friday, the Rwandan delegation attended a CAF Arrival Meeting at Royal Tulip Hotel. The meeting involved passport check and study session which tackled the key aspects of the tournament related to technical, medical, refereeing as well as marketing and media rights.

Amavubi had a double training session on Saturday at 6pm (8pm Rwandan time) and once on Sunday at Stade Grande de Tanger, the venue for Monday’s game.
