British rider Peter Joseph Blackmore who plays for Israel Premier Tech has won Stage 6 of Tour du Rwanda 2024 and claimed the yellow jersey on Friday, February 23.

The 21-year-old moved to the top of the general classification with two stages remaining, thanks to his victory on Mont Kigali that was characterised by how calmly he responded to an acceleration at the final kilometre before timing his sprint to perfection.

Only 69 riders finished the sixth stage which was started by 75 riders. In general, this year’s Tour du Rwanda has attracted the participation of 94 cyclists.

The competition will cover a total distance of 718.9 kilometres, making it the shortest ever since 2009.

Blackmore now leads the general classification, followed by Kazakhstan’s Iikhan Dostiyev in second position and Colombia’s Jhonatan Restrepo in the third.

The closest Rwandan in the general classification is Eric Manizabayo who is in the 15th position, followed by Vainqueur Masengesho in the 16th position, and Moise Mugisha in the 22nd place.
