Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) Women Volleyball Club coach Jean De Dieu Masumbuko is confident about his team’s chances of retaining the league title next season.

While the men’s league is scheduled to start on January 13, the starting date for the women’s league is yet to be confirmed, along with the second division.

The defending champions are not intimidated by their rivals, APR, signing many players for the next season.

Masumbuko, whose team has won the league title since 2013, said, "We are already training at Ecole Belge, and I believe we will be ready for the start of the new season.”

"We are confident about having yet another good season, even if we only signed one player and our closest challengers (APR VC) have signed many new players, we can’t be threatened because we are working to make our team even better next season,” Masumbuko added.

He noted that, "Our goal is to have a good season by winning the league as well as all the other competitions that we will participate in, we also want to improve on our record in the Africa Club Championships.”

Last season, RRA won the national league KAVC Memorial tournament, Kayumba Memorial tournament, Rutsindura Memorial and lost to APR in the final of Genocide Memorial tournament.

RRA will represent Rwanda at this year’s Africa Club Championships, which will be held on March 1-15 in Cairo, Egypt. The annual competition will be held at the Ahly Club Halls and is expected to attract the major clubs in the continent.

The registered teams will thereafter be required to confirm their final participation by providing CAVB the entry form, team roster and flight details before the deadline of March 5.

Ahly Club are the defending champions—they claimed the title in Tunis, Tunisia after beating hosts Etoile du Sahel 3-1 in the final.
