RE: "Genocide fugitive Twagirayezu to appear before Danish court for extradition trial” (The New Times, January 8).

Countries should borrow a leaf from Denmark and try genocide suspects on their soils or send them to Rwanda for trial.

It is commendable that the Danish justice has started the extradition trial of genocide suspect Wenceslas Twagirayezu in addition to extradition of Emmanuel Mbarushimana, a former teacher who was recently sentenced to life over his role in the Genocide against the Tutsi in the Southern Province of Rwanda.

Countries like the UK and France, who have dragged their feet in prosecuting genocide suspects on their soils, should follow the Danish example and try or extradite to Rwanda the Genocide suspects shielded on their territories.

These countries should understand that prosecuting genocide suspects on their territories is not a favor but a must as it is an obligation provided by Resolution 2150 of the UN Security Council. They should stop reneging on their international obligations.
