Twelve-year old Sam Musoni Nshuti, from Remera Sector, Gasabo District, emerged the third best student nationwide in the 2017 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).

"Frankly, it came as a surprise but I did all I could to obtain good results,” he told The New Times yesterday.

Nshuti is from Kigali Parents School. On first sight, he strikes you as an intelligent, courageous yet a humble boy.

"I always study hard and do exercises,” he said. "My success is down to that.”

His parents were not entirely surprised by his excellent performance.

"Samuel is a good child, he is very respectful, and he likes to communicate with us which always helps us to know how we can help him,” his father, Edson Musoni, who accompanied him to this publication’s offices at Gishushu said.

We were confident that he would perform well, he added.

His father said they always encourage their son to pay more attention to his studies because they believe God helps those who help themselves.

Theirs is an Adventist family.

Musoni wants to become a doctor when he completes his studies. He urged other youngsters to study hard and commit themselves to anything that can make them thrive in school.

"They should be focused on whatever they are doing, if they are in class they shouldn’t think about anything else,” he said.

"They should always seek help and advice from their parents and teachers. This is what makes one succeed,” added Nshuti, who scored aggregate 4.
