Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday received the Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and East African Community, Louise Mushikiwabo at the State House in Abuja.

The meeting focused on stronger and expanded bilateral cooperation; synergies in transforming Africa as indicated the Rwandan mission in Nigeria, according to Mushikiwabo, who also doubles as the government spokesperson.

Also present at the state house, was the Rwandan High Commissioner to Nigeria, Stanislas Kamanzi.

"I was in Abuja today, as Envoy of HE President Kagame to his counterpart and brother, HE President Buhari of Nigeria. Important changes underway in our continental body, security matters, and strengthened Rwanda-Nigeria bilateral ties were on the menu,” Mushikiwabo said in a tweet.

Effective January 2018, Rwanda assumed the chair of the African Union and President Paul Kagame will chair the AU Heads of State Summit slated for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, later this month.

The relations between Nigeria and Rwanda started before the establishment of their diplomatic missions in both capitals, dating way back from Rwanda’s independence in 1962.

Over the years, the ties have grown stronger, creating cordial and warm relations.

Rwanda’s national carrier, RwandAir flies four times a week to Nigerian’s economic capital of Lagos.
