The three men’s clubs include; Inkumburwa Gasabo (District), Groupe Scolaire Munyove (Rusizi) and University of Rwanda – Nyagatare Campus, while the women’s clubs are; Ecole Scolaire Kirambo (Burera District), Group Scolaire Official de Butare (Huye District) and Group Scolaire Muyange (Ruhango District).
"With a competitive national championship, it means we have a variety of skilled and good players to select for the national teams at different levels,” said FERWAHAND president, Théogène Utabarutse.
Apart from approving the new clubs, Utabarutse, disclosed that the general assembly also discussed last year’s activities as well as the forthcoming season.
He confirmed that the men’s league will begin on February 17, while the dates for the start of the women’s will be confirmed during the extra-ordinary general assembly scheduled for Febuary 10.
Utabarutse further disclosed that this year’s Heroes Day tournament will be played on the weekend of February 3-4.
Last season, the men’s league had ten clubs including: APR (champions), Police, ADEGI, ES Kigoma, St Aloys, Nyakabanda, Inyemeramihigo, ES Urumuri, UR-Huye and Groupe Scolaire Rambura.
