Bugesera agree to sell defender Omar to Sofapaka for Rwf12m

AZAM Rwanda Premier League side, Bugesera FC have agreed to sell Burundian center back Moussa Omar to Kenyan side Sofapaka for Rwf12.7 million, the club president, Jean Claude Gahigi, has confirmed.

Bugesera have been in talks with Sofapaka, who picked interest in Omar following his impressive performance at the 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, which was won by hosts Kenya, who beat Zanzibar on penalty kicks in the final.

Burundi finished fourth after losing to Uganda in the third place playoff.

Omar joined Bugesera FC at the start of this season on a two-year contract with from Burundian first division side, Athletico Olympic at the before signing for Sofapaka.

Gahigi told Sunday Sport that, "It is true we have been in talks and we have agreed to sell him. He will join them anytime from now after Sofapaka pay the fee we have agreed on.”

Gahigi confirmed that the Nyamata-based league outfit will receive US$15,000 (approximately Rwf12. 7m), for which Bugesera will get Rwf8m, while the player will receive Rwf4.75m.

Before coming to Rwanda, Omar played for Inter Star, Flambeaux de l’Est, Athletico Olympic and Buja City.

Gahigi also revealed that Bugesera will use that money to sign Nigerian striker, Rafael to replace his compatriot Samson Ikechukwu, who has not made a single appearance this season due to a long-standing hamstring injury.

"Samson has an injury that we don’t know when it will heal, so we need to have a contingent plan to sign a replacement as well as another center defender before the transfer window closes,” Gahigi declared.

Bugesera are struggling in 11th place in the league table with 10 points after ten rounds of matches.
