The editorial puts the finger right on the nub of the opposition to discontinuing blanket automatic granting of refugee status to anyone fleeing Rwanda: Fear that, finally, fugitives’ attempts to evade justice by draping themselves in refugee status have become all but impossible.
Each fugitive will now have to demonstrate real and reasonable grounds to prove they have justifiable fear of persecution, rather than of justifiable legal prosecution.
