Ghanaian rapper Magnom, born, Joseph Bulley and Lord Barnes known by his stage name as DJ Lord thrilled their fans during the Roc NYC Celebrations that were hosted by Rock Events on New Year’s Eve at Kigali Serena Hotel.

Magnom who arrived in Kigali on December 31 ended 2017 in style as he performed his major hit My Baby among other hit songs, which saw the crowd go wild, as DJ Lord worked up the crowd with exclusive tunes.

"I wondered how Rwandans would receive me, being my first time here. Surprisingly people loved my songs and they were even rapping to, all the Twi lines that are in my local dialect.

They also had an after party and it was amazing to see them have a really good time, Magnom said in an interview with The New Times.

Magnom, who is one of the most sought after artistes and recording producers revealed that the thrilling performance was one of his major milestones and a stepping stone in promoting his music across the globe.

After the warm reception, the singer declared that Rwanda is going to be his second home.

"I don’t know what other places I will be attracted to but I like it here and the people. I want to take my music to the world and this performance in Kigali is one way to expand my music,” he said.

Magnom started out as a rapper in high school in a group with fellow rapper Asem but he quit rap for record production.

He started working professionally while he was at university, where he studied psychology, and through working with Asem he later got introduced to other mainstream artistes in Ghana. Since then he has worked with several top artistes such as Sarkodie, VVIP, Samini, Edem, Raquel, Guru, 2face Idibia, Shaker, Flowking Stone, Asem, and Popcaan among others. He was nominated for Producer of the Year at the 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards for his production on Edem’s hit song Koene.

"At one point, I realized that I was making beats and sometimes I would have ideas for a song, or play two genres that are different but the artistes liked the idea. So I decided to do that for myself and have control over my future as an artiste and producer. Like the song My Baby is very slow and there are hardly any songs like that,” Magnom explained how he went back to his singing career.

He gained fame in Ghana after he produced the song illuminati with Ghanaian BET award winner Sarkodie.

His hit song My Baby was recently recomposed lyrically and is being used as the theme song for ‘Yabomu’ the catchphrase for the Airtel-Tigo merger in Ghana.
