APR FC are in talks with Gor Mahia midfielder Jean Baptiste ‘Migi’ Mugiraneza to return to the sixteen-time Rwandan league champions, in January.
Should Mugiraneza’s deal be completed, it will be a surprise return for the Amavubi midfielder, who left APR to join Tanzania Premier League side Azam FC three years ago, but played for them for just one season before joining Gor Mahia last year.
Although some APR faithful may feel uncomfortable about Mugiraneza’s return, APR coach Jimmy Mulisa maintains that he sees nothing wrong in re-signing the Rwanda international but he didn’t want to divulge further details.
The military side, third in the league table and preparing to compete in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup, promised to make an official statement in the "near future” regarding their January signings and targets.
Mugiraneza began his career at SC Kiyovu before signing for APR FC in 2007. In February, 2009 he was linked with a move to French club Stade Rennais FC but nothing came out of it.
After 7 years as APR player, Mugiraneza signed a two-year contract with Azam FC and in December 2016, he quit Azam to join Gor Mahia.
The 27-year-old made 20 appearances for SC Kiyovu without scoring a goal and went on to play 102 games for APR FC, scoring 20 goals, while at the international level, he has played 27 matches and scored 6 goals.
