Pepiniere FC stayed top of the second division league Pool A after defeating Esperance SK 1-0 on Saturday at Ruyenzi ground, while in Pool B, Intare FC beat AS Muhanga and leapfrogged them from top spot.

Relegated from the Azam Rwanda Premier League last season after only one season, Pepiniere lead the second tier with 14 points from seven matches. Striker Isai Hagenimana scored the match-winning goal in the 71st minute.

Jean Paul Muhoza’s team are one point ahead of second-placed Sorwathe FC, who overcame bottom side Nyagatare FC 2-1.

"We are happy after this win, our major target this season is promotion to topflight league, that’s why we can’t afford any mistakes,” said Muhoza.

Since the second division league started, Pepiniere FC have won four, drawn twice and lost one game of their opening seven fixtures. Esperance dropped to ninth place with six points but have played two matches less.

In Pool B, Intare FC lead the table with 15 points from seven matches after defeating AS Muhanga 2-1 at Stade de Muhanga.
