RWANDA Men’s senior football team has jumped up by 7 places from 120th to 113th in the latest Coca Cola FIFA Rankings released on Thursday in Zurich, Switzerland.

Ahead of the upcoming 5th African Nations Championship in Morocco, Rwanda also ranks 30th in Africa and third in CECAFA region.

The improvement comes as a surprise to many, especially after Amavubi failed to go past group stages at the recently concluded CECAFA Senior Challenge in Kenya.

Out of four games played in the tournament, Rwanda managed four points, winning one game, drawing one and losing two fixtures.

Despite dropping by one spot, Uganda still tops CECAFA region, ranking 16th in Africa and 75th globally ahead of Kenya (106), Rwanda (113), Sudan (136), Burundi (142) and Ethiopia (143) while Tanzania comes in the 147th position.

Rwanda’s group opponents at CHAN 2018, Nigeria rank 51st, former champions Libya are 88th while Equatorial Guinea are 146th.

Africa’s top five remained unmoved with Senegal still top followed by Tunisia, Egypt, DR Congo and CHAN hosts Morocco. Meanwhile, reigning world champions Germany remain on top in world ranking, followed by Brazil, Portugal and Argentina.
