Ghana’s U-20 side ‘Black Satellites’ have lineup an international friendly game against Kenya as part of their build up to next month’s Caf U-20 African Championship in Kigali, Rwanda. The friendly is also expected to screen their foreign-based players.
In an interview with Graphic Sport ,Jordan Anagbla, the Chairman of the Black Satellites Management Committee, said that the decision to subject the foreign-based players to a justifier was borne out of the brilliant showing of the locals in the team’s triumph at the just concluded West Africa Football Union (WAFU) tournament in Nigeria.
The team, he said, will in early January face Kenya for the last preparations where according to him the climatic conditions were similar to those prevailing in Rwanda.
Players to be screened include; Ransford Osei, (Israel), Rabiu Mohammed (Spain), Abeeku Quansah, Adu Kofi and Andre Dede Ayew( France), David Addy( Denmark), Saddick Adams and Daniel Opare(Spain) and Domnic Adiya.
Ghana is drawn in Group A alongside hosts Rwanda, Mali and Cameroon and will open their campaign against arch rivals Cameroon at Amahoro national stadium on January 18, 2009, moments after a tie between Rwanda and Mali.
Group B pits Nigeria with South Africa, Ivory Coast and Fifa U-20 World Cup hosts Egypt.
The Championship will run from January 18 to February 1. This championship is held every two years with the top four teams qualifying for the Fifa World Youth Championship.
Until 1989 the African representatives were determined purely on a qualifying basis with no African title on the line.
Since 1991 there has been a qualifying stage followed by a final tournament played by 8 teams in a chosen country.
