AS KIGALI came from behind to earn a point against rivals SC Kiyovu in 2-all draw at Kigali Stadium on Tuesday.
The result means Eric Nshimiyimana’s team remain on the top of Azam Rwanda Premier League table with 17 points.
Visitors SC Kiyovu netted the opening goal through striker Jean Claude Nizeyimana in the 29th minute after good play from Djuma Nizeyimana, who eliminated defenders Janvier ‘Jijia’ Benedata and Soter Kayumba.
AS Kigali striker Frank Kalanda struck the equaliser in the 48th minute off a well taken free-kick from Hamidu Ndayisaba.
But Andre Casa Mbungo’s team took the lead again through Djuma Nizeyimana in the 60th minute from skipper Fabrice Mugheni Kakule assist. However, Soter Kayumba leveled matters again, striking in the 82nd minute with a powerful header after a superb corner from Kevin Ishimwe.
Eric Nshimiyimana’s team remain in top position but on the same points (17) as Andre Casa Mbungo’s SC Kiyovu, who remain in second place.
AS Kigali are ahead of SC Kiyovu courtesy of a superior goal difference (nine) – against the latter’s three goals.
AS Kigali’s Tumaine Ntamuhanga, Janvier Benadata and Ratif Bishira were booked, while SC Kiyovu stars Ibrahim Ngarambe and Mugheni Kakule also received yellow cards.
Elsewhere, Police beat Espoir 2-1 at Kamarampaka Stadium to move into fourth with 15 points behind APR, who are in third place although with the same points as Police. Defending champions Rayon Sports temporarily dropped to fifth place with 14 points. Sunrise, playing at home in Nyagatare, beat Kirehe 2-1, while Marines defeated Bugesera 2-0.
Etincelles out to stop Rayon Sports
Meanwhile, action continues today with Rubavu District sponsored Etincelles facing a daunting task against fifth-placed Rayon Sports at Umuganda Stadium.
Etincelles go into today’s match on the back of two wins, five draws and one loss and sitting in seventh place with 10 points, Eight-time champions Rayon Sports have won their last two matches, against Police 1-0 and Amagaju 1-0.
Etincelles head coach Emmanuel Ruremesha will be without Regis Mbonyingabo, who is suspended, while Olivier Karekezi’s team will welcome back two key players, Shassir Nahimana and Pierrot Kwizera, who have been with Burundi national team at regional CECAFA championships.
Sixth-placed Mukura will take on eighth-placed Gicumbi, who’ll be without the services of key midfielder Hussein Ndarabu.
