Pepiniere FC took the top spot in pool A in the second division league after defeating Unity Sports Club 2-0 at Ndera ground at the weekend, which saw the latter remain in fourth after six rounds of matches.
Relegated from the Azam Rwanda Premier League last season after only one season, Pepiniere now lead the table in the second tier with 11 points, one ahead of second-placed Sorwathe FC, who beat Esperance 4-1.
Jean Paul Muhoza’s team took the lead through striker Jean Claude Harihokubwabo in the 29th minute who doubled the lead in 47th minute.
"I’m happy for a good result and appreciate the players’ performance but we will need to continue to work hard and try to win as many matches as we possibly can in a bid to return to the first division,” said Muhoza.
Meanwhile, third-placed Etoile de l’Est FC lost 1-3 Rwamagana City. In Pool B, Intare FC lead the table with 15 points from six matches after defeating La Jeunesse 1-0 at FERWAFA ground over the weekend.
