Rwanda Energy Group (REG) registered two important away wins over the weekend to climb to the top of the national basketball league table standing.

Enjoying their second season in the basketball championship, REG defeated IPRC-South 75-58 on Saturday afternoon in Huye district before thrashing struggling Rusizi basketball club 105-51 on Sunday in Rusizi.

In Saturday’s victory against Charles Mushumba’s IPRC-South, Rwanda international Kami Kabange scored a game high 32 points for REG, who controlled the game from start to finish.

A day later, hosts Rusizi were a no-march for the defending champions, who are keen on retaining the league title among other titles they won last season.

Cyrille Kalima’s men got off to a strong start with a first quarter 30-11 before adding a 32-14 win in the second quarter to go into half-time break with 62-25 lead.

Things got worse for Rusizi in second half, the league’s botton side only managed to score 4 points in the third quarter against 17 points for REG. The final quarter was a bit balanced, ending 26-22 in favor of the victors.

REG dethroned Patriots and IPRC-South, the two other unbeaten sides. REG top the table with 6 points while IPRC-South and Patriots are second and third with 5 points apiece.
