PEOPLE on the streets of Kigali were treated to an early Christmas by Green Hills Academy band. The band, which is comprised of students, staged a live performance in the parking lot of Chic Complex on Monday.

With their beautiful singing voices and musical instruments, the students attracted several onlookers in the busy central business area.

People abandoned their business premises in the area and flocked the venue in droves to enjoy classic Christmas carols in a live outdoor show.

Some of the songs performed include Deck the holidays, Belwin beginning band kit-holiday season, Angelic celebrations, Olde English Carol and The Nutcracker among others.

"We wanted to share love and fun with people of Kigali through band music, and we are glad that people liked the presentation,” said Lance Gaskill, the band director.

He added that the performance was also a way of introducing a new programme of band music in Rwanda that would enable school children develop their talents if they developed interest for it.

Gaskill urged parents and teachers to provide an opportunity to children so that they learn band instruments.

According to Adoyo Christine, one of the band members, the festive season should be a time to be happy and spend it with the people you love, but most importantly share that little you have with the needy so that you put a smile on their faces.

Elssy Rwamasirabo, a member of the band also said Christmas is not only about giving but also receiving from others and being kind to one another. She encouraged other school heads to introduce band lessons to their schools because it presents several opportunities for students.
