Unbeaten Etoile de l’est FC assumed top spot in Pool A in the second division league after defeating Gitikinyoni FC 3-0 at Ngoma ground.
Etoile de l’est lead the table with 10 points, one ahead of second-placed Unity SC after drawing 1-1 with Sorwathe FC, who are in fourth place with 7 points. after After the loss Gitikinyoni dropped to 11th place with four points from five matches.
Ngoma-based Etoile de l’est took the lead through striker Yves Rukundo after 38 minutes before he added the second in the 41st minute, left-back Eric Mugisha netted the third goal in the 71st minute.
After notching his third win in four matches, unbeaten Etoile de l’est head coach Noah Nsaziyinka said, "This is a good result for us but we must keep the consistency because we want to stay at the top of Pool A until end of the group stage.”
Thierry Nzayisenga, the head coach of Gitikinyoni FC said, "Etoile de l’est is a good team with quality players. They were simply the better side today.”
Meanwhile, third-placed Pepiniere FC drew 1-1 with Rwamagana City.
In Pool B, AS Muhanga, on 13 points from five matches, opened up a three-point lead at the top of the table after winning 3-1 against Interforce on Saturday, second-placed La Jeunesse beat SEC Academy 2-0 at Mumena grounds on Sunday.
