Over 800 students from Ambassador’s Girls’ Scholarship Programme (AGSP) were empowered with life skills and knowledge on reproductive health.

This was during a four-day African Education Initiative Beneficiary’s workshop that was held at King David Secondary School.

During the workshop, the National Coordinator for FAWE Rwanda, Odette Mukazi Mutanguha called upon the beneficiaries to embrace time management and have a personal vision and target in life.

"It is good to have a vision and a focus for your future and to work towards achieving it. You should also learn to manage your time and to use it well to achieve your goals in life,” Mutaguha encouraged the students upon closure of the workshop that ended yesterday.

The purpose of the workshop was to bring together the beneficiaries from different provinces to interact and socialise with each other and to emphasise on the mentoring programme.

AGSP provides comprehensive support for girls’ education in Africa.

"It’s not about acquiring funds and scholastic materials for these vulnerable students… there is need for us to tackle the social problems and to monitor their progress as parents,” mutanguha added.

The workshop brought together young mentors from different higher institutions of learning across the country. The purpose was to mainly impart to the beneficiaries’ knowledge and life skills on Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS.

"We have had time to interact with these students and to build confidence in them and the fact that they can achieve more in life,” said Linda Ingabire a mentor from Kigali Institute of Education. 

The last batch of AGSP students sponsored by Forum for African Women Education (FAWE) to complete the workshop were from the Western and Southern province while those from the Northern and Eastern provinces finished last week.

AGSP Rwanda was initiated  in 2005 working with one implementing partner, FAWE Rwanda which selected 1500 qualified recipients as beneficiaries.
