RE: "Africa is capable of dealing with its issues” (The New Times, November 15).

The fact that Africa has the essential means, in both material resources and intellectual competencies, to run our own affairs effectively and deal with any related issues has never been in doubt.

The problem has always been self-doubt and the associated lack of political will to put into effect the very simple solutions we all know need to be implemented.

And, the longer we procrastinate the more powerful inertia becomes, encouraging us to resort to the same old ways of doing things that we are all aware have failed, confirming, once again, Einstein's adage about insanity and doing the same things over and over again while expecting different results.
