RE: "Doing Business: Govt to introduce 15 new reforms” (The New Times, November 13).
These are by far the most comprehensive business reforms to be undertaken by the government. I co-own a small factory – which employs 104 people daily – that is operating at 24 per cent its capacity largely due to the minimum 17 power cuts we face every day. My competitors have consistently told me that investing in a generator and getting off grid is the solution to the problem I am facing.
The problem is that the cost of the generator is 40 million and I would rather have that money as working capital since banks are sharks waiting to make money off my sweat and I am wary of debt as a financing mechanism at this stage of a young business.
With these reforms, I expect to see less outages, increased production and above all accountability on the part of Rwanda Energy Group. I will give an appraisal end next year of whether this helped me or not.
