INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS - President Paul Kagame yesterday met a host of British businessmen to whom he outlined choices that Rwandan leadership had taken over the last 13 years, guided by a clear vision of development. 

During his luncheon remarks at the London school of Economics, Kagame hinted at the engagement with the corporate world as key to the challenges Rwanda faces in striving to overcome subsistence agriculture, donor dependency and being land-locked.

The President, who arrived in the UK yesterday for a five-day visit told the businessmen that that would help in finding innovative solutions that clearly establish unique areas that will develop Rwanda.

The luncheon was attended by a number of leading corporate heads in several areas including the financial and energy sectors and officials of the London School of Economics.

Rwandan government officials and members of the private sector also participated in the event in which the facilitator, Peter Denis Sutherland, stated that the conducive business environment that exists in Rwanda is characterised by rule of law and transparency, presented attractive opportunity for investors.

Sutherland is from the Petroleum company, British Petroleum (BP).

Kagame will today address the Conservative Party Conference currently underway in Blackpool.
