APR failed to recover from their day one woes aftersuffering their second successive defeat in this year’s Fiba-Africa Club Championships in Sousse, Tunisia.

Just like in their opening game against Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia, the Rwandan basketball -giants still had their poor defense to blame after Sunday’s 62-71 loss to Kano Pillars of Nigeria.

It was total misery for the East Africans who fancied their chances after being drawn in a relatively easier Group (A). With three games left, APR need to win at least two to progress to the quarter finals.

The indomitable lions are hungry to build on last year’s success. APR made their debut in what is Africa’s most coveted club championship after winning the Zone 5 Club Championship.

The army side went on to qualify for the quarter-finals were they were eventually knocked out by eventual champions Primero de Agosto.

APR eventually battled their way to a seventh spot finish in the classification games. Kano Pillars, still unbeaten in three outings are now joint table leaders with Etoile in Group A with six points while APR continues to languish in 5th spot with two points.

Else where, defending champions Primero de Agosto (Angola) crushed Nigeria’s Union Bank 88-53 to post their second win of the competition in Group B. Joaquin Gomez and Olympio Cipriano led Primero’s scoring charge with 13 points each.

Stade Nabeulien of Tunisia also stayed on level points (4) with Primero after an imposing 93-38 win over BC Onatra of DR. Congo. It was total humiliation for the Congolese.
