NYAGATARE — The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), has trained 110 school head teachers and teachers on HIV/Aids control and how to enhance rural education standards.

The participants who also included parents were selected from five administrative sectors of Nyagatere district. Speaking at a ceremony to award certificates to 108 pioneer beneficiaries of this training, last Friday, Safari Sibo, of ADRA’s RIREP project in Nyagatare, who oversaw the one month training, said that capacity building is vital in the national education reform.

The function took place at SOPEM Secondary School in the Rukomo Sector.

"You should use the knowledge you have gained as mechanisms to open more frontlines to strive for more successes in the national education reform,” Samuel Ndayambaje, who represented ADRA country director told the participants.

Ndayambaje explained that capacity building could be one of the supporting and most promising initiatives being carried out to make sure education reform achieves its set goals.

The main aim of the education reforms is to match Rwanda’s academic standards with that of other regional and international countries.

Rukomo Sector’s official in charge of social affairs, Alexis Maniragaba also called on the teachers to strive to uplift education standards.

"We are appealing to each of you …. to undertake what is required to bring an end to the undervalued education system,” he said.

The participants were asked to get involved in other education activities such as adult literacy and mobilisation of school dropouts to go back to school.

Marie L Nyirakamana, one of the participants is optimistic that conflicts among school administrators would end since many have attained management skills.
