WESTERN PROVINCE

KARONGI — Rwf16.1 million was last week raised in a fundraising drive for the construction of the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) new headquarters in the Western Province.

The fundraising was launched during a one-day consultative meeting that brought together all area party members and well wishers at Ecole Secondaire St Marie auditorium in Karongi district.

Other activities on the agenda included welcoming the recently elected party MPs from the province, evaluating this year’s performance and setting the party’s next year plans in the province.

Speaking at the occasion, the provincial party President, J. Nepo Nkurikiyinka, warned party grassroots leaders against divisionism which he said affects the party’s performance.

"Divisionism amongst members in the party and poor performance has remained a threat and this has affected the local population in your areas of operation. You should overcome this and everyone strive to create new blood of team work which will help us achieve our next year’s goals,” he said, warning that those who will not afford to move on the same pace with other party members will be eliminated.

"Those who will not accept to play the same match of developing our country with others shall be removed from the pitch,” he warned. He urged the new MPs to become true ambassadors of those who trusted them.

"You should work exceptionally hard to the expectations of those Rwandans who entrusted you to represent them in Parliament,” he added, advising them to always visit residents and offer their assistance towards developmental needs.

MP Judith Kanakuze, who spoke on behalf of her colleagues, pledged their commitment to working together in developing the province.

She promised they will always deliver new development programmes set to develop districts and Sectors in the Province.

According to a plan, the proposed new RPF office complex to be constructed in Karongi district, will cost Rwf133 million, projected to be finished by the year 2010.
