Rwanda international goalkeeper Olivier Kwizera who features for South Africa based Free State Stars is nursing a career threatening injury that could see him out of action for several months. He picked an injury on the right knee when his side was playing a warm up game against Bidvest Wits on October 12 and underwent an operation on October 26.

Doctors have given him up to three months before he can fully recover.

"I believe I will come back stronger and hopefully start playing for my new team,” Former APR and Bugesera FC player said.

Kwizera plays for Free State which is coached by former Rayon Sports coach Luc Eymael.

The club is in 10th place with 11 points, while Baroka FC are leading the table with 15 points after ten rounds.

Kwizera became the first Rwandan goalkeeper to play in the South Africa Premier League after signing a two-year contract with Free State Stars FC in September.

The 22-year-old Rwanda international, whose career started with APR FC youth team before joining Bugesera FC two years ago, became the first Rwandan to sign a permanent contract with a South African first division club.

Former APR and Amavubi striker Jimmy Gatete was the first Rwandan to play in South Africa, for Maritzburg United during the 2004/5 season, but in the second division.
