RWANDA’S U-20 friendly match against Egypt has been officially confirmed for January 7, 2009 in Cairo. Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa told Times Sport that the junior wasps will play two build-ups against Egypt’s U-20 in a first leg and return leg format on January 7 & 9 in Cairo.
"Much of the intensive preparations will be held in Tunisia. They will play four friendly matches before heading to Egypt on January 5 for the crucial build-up matches,” Kalisa said.
The 32-man contingent left for Tunisia for a one-month training camp ahead of the 16th African youth Championship set for January 18-Fevruary 1 in Kigali.
The African Youth Championship squad is comprised of a six-man technical staff and 26 players. The team which arrives in Tunis this afternoon is expected to play against four top Tunisian league clubs before this month ends.
Haruna Niyonzima, Jean Baptista Mugiraneza, Elias Uzamukunda and Jean Luc Ndayishimiye are among the players who will feature in next year’s African championship after failing to progress in the qualifiers for the Beijing Olympic Games.
They will be assisted by new faces on the team including: Hegman Ngoma (APR), Arafat Serugendo (APR), Aimable Rucogoza (Rayon Sport) and Bonfils Twahirwa (AS Kigali) Rwanda faces Mali, Cameroon and Ghana in Group A while Group B is made up of Nigeria, Ivory Coast, South Africa and Egypt.
