THE national ladies cricket team is in Kenya to take part in the regional ICC/ACA Women tournament. The 15-man team left yesterday morning by road and is expected to arrive in Nairobi this morning.

Unlike Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, Rwanda is only making her debut at the regional competition that has been hugely dominated by Uganda in recent years.

Rwanda’s contingent at the five-day tournament includes Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA)’s schools development officer Emmanuel Byiringiro, team coach Eric Dusabemungu and a 13-man squad captained by Rina Ntagozera.

Before the team’s departure, Byiringiro said that the tournament would serve as a learning curve for the girls.

"We intend to use the tournament as a learning curve and give our girls that exposure. All the other teams are relatively more experienced but we shall give them a fight,” said Byiringiro.

Rwanda starts her campaign on Wednesday with a clash against Uganda before taking on Kenya and Tanzania on Thursday and Friday respectively.

At the end of the round robin The top two sides will progress to the final while the other two will wrestle it out in the third place play offs.

The team was jointly funded by RCA and ICC, the global cricket governing body.
