An international conference on cancer in Africa is due to open in Kigali today.

The 2017 conference will run from November 7 to 10, 2017 at the Kigali Convention Centre. It is hosted by the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC).

The biennial conferences brings together a broad range of cancer professionals: medical oncologists nurses, fellows and registrars, specialists and academics, clinicians and scientists, advocates and policymakers, public health professionals and trade representatives among others.

The multidisciplinary specialists from the global cancer community will seek to reduce the impact of cancer in Africa.

During the conference, participants will present their research, share expertise, hear case studies and gain practical information to ensure success in cancer management and research in Africa, according to a concept note.

Participants will also participate in workshops led by expert speakers to broaden their network for clinical support, collaboration and education and help them make informed and educated decisions on what is happening in the field of cancer in Africa.

AORTIC’s key objectives include to further research relating to cancers prevalent in Africa and to facilitate and support training initiatives in oncology for health-care workers.

AORTIC is a pan-African, bilingual, multi-disciplinary organisation dedicated to the promotion of cancer care and control in Africa.
