The Chancellery for Heroes, National Orders and Decorations of Honour (CHENO) has embarked on launching clubs of culture and heroism in universities and higher learning institutions throughout the country.
The clubs are expected to serve as a breeding ground for young generations for a good understanding of heroism values like patriotism, integrity, sacrifice, courage, bravery, truthfulness and magnanimity, among others, according to officials.
The launch started with Kigali Independent University-Rubavu branch and in Musanze Polytechnic over the weekend.
Among the activities that will be organised by the clubs in Universities and Higher Learning Institutions are debates, talk-shows and events where poems, songs and other literature on heroism are presented.
CHENO is a government entity which has, among other functions, the mission of promoting heroism culture.
From the year 2013 up to 2016, the Chancellery has established around 4000 clubs of culture and heroism in primary and secondary schools. In the year 2017-2018, CHENO planss to start more clubs in Universities and other higher learning institutions.
The Director of Research at CHENO, Nicolas Rwaka, says that all Rwandans, especially the youth, need to understand that it is their duty to build their country and defend it from anyone and anything against its sovereignty. "National heroes have risked their lives and their personal interests for the common good; and the best way to honour them is to follow in their footsteps,” he advised.
