• Infrastructure PS temporarily suspended
A cabinet meeting Friday dismissed 29 police officers from the Rwanda National Police force as a result of misconduct.
According to the communiqué after the meeting, two Assistant Inspectors of Police (AIP) Emmanuel Rudasingwa and Habimana Rusatira, and 27 other Non Commissioned Officers (NCOs) were given the chop for "improper conduct”.
"Improper conduct here means various issues, ranging from deserting their work without official permission for a long time, corruption-related cases and other forms of indiscipline,” Police spokesman Willy Marcel Higiro, told The New Times.
"All these are spoiling the institution’s image,” Higiro said, explaining that there have been concerted efforts to crack down on indiscipline in the force ever since the year begun.
"Discipline and proper conduct at work are paramount,” he stressed.
The cabinet meeting also temporarily suspended Vincent Gatwabuyenge as the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure. He was on Friday for allegedly flouting tender procedures in a road rehabilitation programme. His temporary suspension is reportedly to allow time for investigations into his alleged crime.
