Besides Egypt, the other semifinalists are Tunisia, Algeria and Cameroon following their quarterfinal victories over Morocco, DR Congo and Libya, respectively.

Egypt fought aggressively to overcome Rwanda 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, and 25-14) to make the semifinal.

Egypt will battle it out against Cameroon in a classic semifinal, while Tunisia line up against neighbours Algeria in another African derby on Friday.

Cameroon had the toughest tie as they had to battle for more than 2 hours to down Libya 3-2 (27-25, 22-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-9).

Algeria eased past DR Congo 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-19).

In the play-offs (for 5 to 8 places) Rwanda face Libya, while DR Congo meet Morocco. The 2017 Men's African championship doubles also as the 2018 World Championship qualifiers with the top three teams booking their tickets to the FIVB Prestigious championship.
