The Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Jeannette Bayisenge, has urged local authorities in Rubavu District to put more effort in identifying families that have wrangles and urgently help in resolving them.
According to Bayisenge, domestic conflicts have a strong impact on the values that a child acquires throughout their growing up.
The minister made the remarks earlier this week while interacting with different families in the Rugerero Sector of Rubavu District.
"You have a big responsibility of being exemplary to your children. It is very important for generations to come. It's our responsibility to give good values to our children," Bayisenge said.
Speaking about family conflicts, Bayisenge said that there are families living in conflict due to alcohol abuse, and infidelity among other problems and called on grassroot leaders to be on the lookout for such behaviours that are likely to wreak families.
Bayisenge added that there are over 29,000 groups of ‘Friends of Family’ whose responsibility is to address family conflicts. So far there are two members of friends of family in every village.
According to Western Province Governor, Francis Habitegeko, teenage pregnancies and stunting are some of the key issues present in the Province that originate from family conflicts.
