Brazilian football giants Santos FC are exploring areas of partnership with Rwandan second tier side Heroes FC as both teams anticipate to enjoy mutual benefits, Times Sport has learnt.

Santos are currently playing in the Brazilian second division league after they were, for the first time in their 111-year history, relegated from the Serie A at the end of the 2023 season.

Heroes FC proprietor and president Fidele Kanamugire is in Brazil for a church conference and used the occasion and met his Santos counterpart Marcelo Teixeira. The two held discussions on potential partnerships in football which could see the clubs partner on transfer of talents, coaches and personnel.

"I was invited for church conference in Brazil and I extended my visit to connecting with people who are in the football industry and business as well," Kanamugire told Times Sport.

"I had the privilege to meet the councilor Jatoba for Sao Vicente city of São Paulo state and I shared with him about the Heroes football project we are doing in Rwanda. He linked me to the president of Santos Football Club Marcelo Teixeira and he told me that they are going to partner with us on various football programs in the future."

Heroes FC is among the vibrant and well managed second league clubs in Rwanda. They have over the years unearthed and produced football talents such as Patrick Mutsinzi and Bonheur Mugisha, a former APR midfielder who currently plies his trade at Al Marsa in the Tunisian Ligue 1.

Santos has, on the other side, produced pool of extraordinary talents including late football great Edson Arantes Nascimento, popularly known as "Pele" as well world’s most expensive footballer Neymar.
