Any woman who cherishes her looks knows how much nail polish can make one look trendy. Let us focus on some tips of making your manicure and pedicure without necessarily going to the saloon.

Pamela Hitimana, a physician says that it’s important to take time out of one’s own personal wellbeing. It isn’t necessary to spend a lot of money in saloons, but if you can get a few basic items and spare time, you can give yourself the best treatment that you deserve.

If it is the first time to do a manicure all by yourself, then you need to first know the condition your nails are in. Are they dry? This could be because you have been changing nail polish so often.

The acetone in the nail polish remover is one of the biggest reasons your nails might be dry.

‘Nail polish and treatments, like many other cosmetics, are made from dozens of chemicals that work together to make a product that is colorful, shiny, hard, and chip-free’, says Dieudonne Toto a professional salonist.

Good care

Just like the hair or  skin, your nails also need extra care, because they are part of the features that contribute to our smartness.

A fresh manicure helps you look clean and trendy. Toto adds that it’s important to have all the essentials ready if you want to give yourself the manicure. She says that it is important t soak your nails for a few minutes in warm water.

According to the general principle of manicure and pedicure, after washing, nails need to be dried carefully to avoid creating a haven for fungi or bacteria. And if there is any stain, you can use a white nail pencil to give it a cleaner look.

Use an old toothbrush and soap to scrub the nails and to clean any dirt  from underneath the fingernails. Soak your hands in warm water for five minutes to get the cuticles nice and soft. After that, dry your nails and rub your hands with a rich moisturizer.

To achieve a natural and trendy look, use a strengthening nail polish remover to get every bit of polish off your nails. Shaped nails look so much better than scruffy ones with different lengths. If your nails are in different lengths, start by trimming them all to the length of the shortest nail.

Sometimes, toenail clippers do a better job since they cut a straight line and not the curved cut you get from fingernail clippers. Cut each nail straight across and then take the tiniest clip on the edges, just enough to remove the point but not enough to cut down into the side of the nail.

‘Cutting and filing the sides of the nail will make them weak and prone to splitting. Once all nails are trimmed and have achieved the same length, take an emery board and smooth out all the edges’, says Jackson Muhire a practicing beautician. Muhire says that one needs two layers to ensure that the nails dry to the touch between coats.

Do not do the act close to bedtime, since the nails will press against the sheets and form lines. Do it at least two hours before bedtime. Be patient and let nails harden before doing any work that might mess up your perfect manicure.
