The separation came just hours after local football governing body slapped the DR Congo international with a six-month suspension from all football activities in Rwanda over his recent politically-motivated celebration after scoring the opening goal during Rayon Sports' 2-1 league victory over Police FC at Kigali Pele Stadium on Sunday, February 11.

The player sparked controversy among club supporters and football enthusiasts by covering his right hand over his mouth while holding two fingers of his other hand to his head during his goal celebration.

Luvumbu’s celebration was not welcomed by Rayon Sports who had distanced themselves from what they called "bad conduct" before announcing an immediate separation on Tuesday.

"Rayon Sports and Heritier Nziga Luvumbu have mutually agreed to part ways," the club announced via their social media accounts on Tuesday.

Luvumbu, who was having a second spell at Rayon Sports, had five months left on his contract which was due to expire on June 30. The club opted to terminate it and part ways with him on mutual agreement as FERWAFA’s six-month suspension left him with no chance to play for the club anymore.
